We are writing to inform you about a concerning trend in the roofing industry that we believe is unethical and potentially illegal. Specifically, some roofing contractors are offering to pay the insurance deductible for customers who need roof repairs or replacements. This practice is not only unethical but also illegal according to Colorado Senate Bill 38 Article 22, subsection C.

It is important to note that insurance companies require that the homeowner pay their deductible when filing a claim. Any roofing contractor who offers to pay your deductible is essentially committing insurance fraud by billing the insurance and the homeowner different costs, by charging the insurance company more than they are billing the homeowner they are committing fraudulent activity. This unethical practice can lead to serious consequences, including legal liability for both the contractor and the homeowner.
We strongly urge our customers to vet any contractor they are considering for their roofing needs thoroughly. Look for a contractor with a good reputation, a valid license, and insurance coverage.
A reputable contractor will never offer to pay your deductible and will advise you to follow the legal and ethical guidelines set forth by the state.
